This Week I…

Watched- Ben is Back, The Upside, and If Beale Street Could Talk in theaters. I loved Ben is Back! It was sad and thought provoking. I’m glad to see topics that were once taboo, even recently, are now the subject of major motion pictures. Ben is Back is about a teen or young adult (his exact age is unclear) who has a drug addiction. His addiction started with prescription drugs and lead to illegal drugs. The step father in the movie is black and talks about how if Ben was black, he would already be in jail for the things he has done because of his addiction. I cannot say enough good things about this movie, just bring your tissues. The Upside I was not as fond of. It was funny and there were conversation inducing moments, but I’m not sure, it just was not my favorite. I think part of the problem I had with it is one that many people have, Bryan Cranston played a quadriplegic man in the movie, and he is an able bodied man. I t
hink more opportunities should be given to people with disabilities. Another problem I had with this movie is more a of personal, maybe jealous, one. Kevin Hart plays the caregiver in the movie. This is similar to my current job as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Kevin Hart’s character was paid over $2,000 a week in the movie. I get paid nowhere near this! I need that job. If Beale Street Could Talk was amazing! It is from the same guy who did Moonlight, and he has a spec
ific style. If you liked Moonlight, you will like this movie. The love story in If Beale Street Could Talk is so strong, you can see their love in everything. Also, the boy who was cast as their son could not have been cast more perfectly. He’s the cutest and looks just like the two actors. This week I also watched two movies on DVD, Crazy Rich Asians and Eighth Grade, and Girl Meets World on Netflix. I saw Crazy Rich Asians when it was in theaters and then watched it again this week. I absolutely love this movie. The costumes, sets, acting, music, and editing are all amazing and I will watch this movie over and over again. Eighth Grade…I did not really like it, I didn’t hate it. I was very neutral to it. I did not realize until I picked up the DVD that Bo Burnham directed the movie. I’m happy for him. I remember watching his “Love Is” YouTube video one thousand times in high school. Girl Meets World is the sort of revival of Boy Meets World. Cory and Topanga are still together and have two kids of their own. They live in New York City where Topanga is a lawyer and Cory is a teacher; he teaches his daughter. I loved the show. I’m a sucker for cheesy coming of age stories. I also appreciated that many of the actors from Boy Meets World were guest stars on the show. One thing that really bothered me about the show was, and this is me being really nit-pickey, was that Cory says he and Topanga are 32. Riley, their daughter is 14 at this point. That would mean that they had her when they were 18. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN ON BOY MEETS WORLD.

Read- Brunner and Suddarth’s Textbook of Medical-Surgical Nursing, 13th Edition, Volume 2. The class that I am currently taking is the class that I failed this time last year. I think I failed this class last year because I did not study enough right off the bat, because of this I did poorly on the first test and then could not pull myself out of this hole I created. This time around I am studying and studying and studying. I have a good plan, hopefully, and am trying my best.
Listened to- the Hamilton soundtrack, over and over and over again.
Celebrated- the Rams going to the Superbowl! Sort of. I don’t really care but ok!
Ate- shrimp salad, homemade “KFC” famous bowl, pizza, and veggie nachos. I cooked three full meals for myself this week and also made sandwiches and snacks. This seems so basic but in my first apartment, I cooked one time. I lived there for two years… In my second apartment I tried to cook once and blew a fuse. I took that as a sign I shouldn’t be cooking. BUT one of my goals this year was to eat out less, therefore cooking for myself more. I think it’s going pretty well, although I do still hate having to do the dishes after cooking. Next week I want to try some crock pot recipes. I think I will like meals from the crock pot because hopefully they’ll be delicious, and it seems like way less work.
Wore- scrubs! Nursing school started back up, so that means clinical started back up, at 0630. UGH! So early…
