This Week I...

watched- Vice and On the Basis of Sex, both in theaters! I loved them both! Neither was exactly what I was expecting, but that's kind of what I love about movies. I was super impressed with the prosthetic and makeup work done in Vice. The story was one that I didn't really know, but I think it is an important one. The movie itself talks about how it has a liberal shift, buuuuut so do I. On the Basis of Sex was fantastic. RBG is a living legend and we need to protect her at all costs. I appreciated how the movie showed her struggles, not just her successes. I love biographies and memoirs, and movies based on true events, like both of these movies, because I love to see how successful people got to where they are. I'm also super nosy, so memoirs scratch that itch. This week I also binged the entire Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. My sister and I, and our friend Dominique loved this book series when we were younger. It was fun to see this series come to life. Also, Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious in everything. I need to read his memoir!

read- When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger. I actually started this book last year, but I had to return it to the library before I could really get into it. I'm only about nine chapters in but so far, so good!

listened to- The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama on audiobook. I own two or three copies of this book in paperback but I have never read it. I saw it at the library and decided to get it. I have listened to one of the five discs and it is pretty good. Originally I thought this book was a memoir, it is not. This book is a love letter to America. So far, this book has been inspirational, hopeful, and interesting. I say it is interesting because this book was published before Obama ran for and eventually became president of the United States. It is interesting to see his vision then, what happened, and his vision now.

celebrated- my birthday! My birthday was actually last month (December 10) but I got to experience one of my birthday gifts this week. My birthday present was a Peoria Charter Travel bus trip to Chicago to see Hamilton: An American Musical! I WAS SO EXCITED FOR THIS TRIP and it did not disappoint. We got to Chicago at about 10:30am. This gave us time for a little shopping. I went to Block Thirty Seven, where I visited Anthropologie, Akira, Zara, and Sephora, aka some of my favorite stores that we do not have in my town. If I weren't so excited for Hamilton, I would have just shopped all day, but the afternoon was all about Hamilton and it was amazing!! I had super high expectations for the show because I had heard so much about it. It did not disappoint. The actors were phenomenal. The set and ROTATING STAGES were incredible. The choreography and light cues were spot on. Everything was just so perfect. Lin Manuel Miranda is as impressive as anyone could hope to be. He wrote the music is lyrics for In The Heights when he was only 28. Then he wrote Hamilton when he was 35. LIKE WHAT?? As if that wasn't enough, he's using his celebrity for good. Just this week he went back to Puerto Rico to perform as Alexander Hamilton again. This was a fundraiser for the country and to raise awareness of the challenges that the country still faces. This week Lin Manuel Miranda and other Hamilton alums purchased a bookstore in New York that would have otherwise closed.

ate- chicken cesar salad. I'm not 100% sure if we are supposed to being eating romaine lettuce yet, especially since the government is shut down and the FDA has limited many of their food inspections, but I haven't died yet. So here's hoping I don't die next week.

wore- a lot of skirts and sneakers and got complimented on my street style. That's right, not one but TWO girls at Anthropologie complimented my outfit. Another girl stopped me on the street to tell me she loved my outfit. I love people! But anyway, a lot of the items I wore this week were probably more appropriate for Spring. Maybe if we dress like it's Spring, it will come faster?

What did you watch, read, listen to, celebrate, eat, and/or wear this week?
